Dance Academy

 Bishop Conaty- our Lady of Loretto's Dance Academy provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to engage actively in dance as performers, choreographers, and directors. Students discover and engage with a wide variety of performance styles, world dance traditions, and dance practitioners.  In so doing, they develop vital 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity, leadership, and critical thinking.

Overall Course Description: 

These courses are designed for students of any level who want to learn the basics of different styles of Dance. We will cover the movement fundamentals of Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Social Dance and Contemporary along with the historical significance of each style.  Students will have the opportunity to express themselves creatively through choreography and dance making.  The course concludes with a performance at the end of the year.  No previous dance experience is required.

 

These courses aim to enable students to: 

1. Become informed, reflective, and critical practitioners of dance

2. Understand and value the diversity of dance across time, place, and culture

3. Confidently use the body as an artistic tool for expression

4. Enjoy lifelong interest in an engagement with the arts. 

 

Through devising, preparing, presenting, and critically reflecting on dance, students will gain a richer understanding of themselves, their community, and the world.
