In 2002, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops adopted its Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Since then, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has been adopting policies concerning these commitments and establishing Safeguard the Children Parish Committees and safe environment programs.

In accord with these programs each member of the Bishop Conaty – Our Lady of Loretto faculty and staff are “VIRTUS®” certified. VIRTUS® is the brand name that identifies best practices programs designed to help prevent wrongdoing and promote “rightdoing” within religious organizations. The VIRTUS® programs empower organizations and people to better control risk and improve the lives of all those who interact with the Church. In addition, adult and student volunteers are required to read and sign guidelines for interacting with children or youth. Bishop Conaty – Loretto also requires that all parent volunteers have had VIRTUS® Safe Environment Training.
